Most insurance companies only cover spouses or dependent children in their policies. Contact your company’s human resources department if you want to know what they specifically cover.

If covered by Medicaid, Georgia law only allows her to use those funds for abortion in the following cases:

  • The mother’s life is in danger

  • Rape

  • Incest

Is She Actually Pregnant?

Have you confirmed your girlfriend’s pregnancy? Although rare, it is possible to get a false-positive result on a pregnancy test and not actually be pregnant.

How can you find out for sure if your girlfriend is truly pregnant? Visit Options Medical Clinic for free pregnancy services, including a complimentary ultrasound scan.

Why Does My Girlfriend Need an Ultrasound?

There are three main reasons your girlfriend needs to have an ultrasound. This information is vital before an abortion. Here is what you will both learn about her pregnancy:

  • Is the pregnancy viable?A viable pregnancy means it is growing with a detectable heartbeat (an ultrasound can detect a heartbeat at 6 or more weeks). Experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. That is one out of every four pregnancies! The only way to determine if she has a viable pregnancy or if she has miscarried is with an ultrasound.

  • How far along is the pregnancy? The number of weeks your girlfriend has been pregnant is known as the gestational age. Georgia bans abortion after 6 weeks. You will need to travel if she is farther along. The FDA approves the use of the abortion pill method through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. She may need a surgical procedure after that.

  • Where is the pregnancy located? It may seem odd, but some pregnancies actually form in the wrong area. A normal pregnancy grows in a woman’s uterus. If it is outside the uterus, it is called an ectopic pregnancy, which is extremely dangerous. She should see her healthcare provider immediately if detected.
